Father's Day History and Traditions of the Celebration

Many people in the United States and Canada celebrate Father's Day a day to express gratitude and appreciation to my parents by giving them gifts and greeting cards. Father's Day falls on the third Sunday in June.

Father's Day was started in 1910 by Mrs. John Dodd of Spokane, Washington. The custom has spread throughout the United States and in 1936 the Committee of National Father's Day was formed. Headquartered in New York, the Committee annually selects the father of the year. Some of the parents who received this title is Douglas MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower and Harry Truman.
